What's a short-term marriage? Florida legislature thinks it is a marriage of less than 11 years. They also think that it automatically presumes that an award for maintenance is not appropriate. Ouch.

May 5, 2013 at 8:25 AM This is for families contemplating divorce. Why Collaborative Divorce? Because it is easier on the children. Avoid negative remarks toward the other parent, avoid confrontations in front of the children. "Because kids identify with their parents, they interpret negative characterizations as also aimed at them."
How To Turn Down The Heat On Fiery Family Arguments : NPR
Psychologists say that kids who get entangled in their parents' arguments often suffer shame and low self-esteem. And so some are trying to teach parents who feel they just can't stop arguing when they get angry how to "get to calm."

April 7, 2013 at 10:32 AM US is the only industrial country that does not use a metric system. Metric Conversion Act of 1975 requires federal government and federal projects to use metric system. Other businesses are encouraged to use it. But no one seems to care to convert despite the inherent cost benefit.

March 20, 2013 at 9:58 AM Most civilians do not understand the constitutional concepts as they are applied equally to heinous murderers and the innocent. But here it is well-explained:
“If you allow the protections under the law to erode or not to be applied to a certain individual because of the heinous nature of the crime, then those laws are going not be in the place down the road potentially when there’s someone who really needs them, someone who is possibly innocent.”- said Ohio lawyer Ian Friedman.

March 18, 2013 at 6:45 PM In Illinois, you do not NEED to specify a reason to get a divorce. It can be as simple as "irreconcilable difference." The more reasons you list, the longer your divorce will take to go through all the court channels.
But this one is interesting, the baby was "ugly" because the wife had plastic surgery and did not tell the husband. The baby turned out to look like the wife.

March 16, 2013 at 3:28 PM In divorce court, if you think your spouse is overestimating the worth of your marital property, do what this guy did.
He has the dishes, he'll give it to the Wife once she pays him 50% for it based on the value she claimed it was worth (the exaggerated by her value).

People are familiar with home-office deductions for their income tax purposes. People are also familiar that when they sell their home, those proceeds are not taxable.
However, if you have been deducting portions of your home as home-office, then you will be taxed on that portion of the home when you sell it.

That's why enforcement of the rule has been postponed for three months from January, 2013 to April, 2013. We'll see what they do.
